dnata delivers smooth airport experience for summer travellers

Runway upgrades at Dubai International, and the introduction of passengers to Dubai World Central could have meant roadblocks for airlines and travellers over the busy summer period, but the team at dnata worked hard to deliver a strong performance.  

Over the four months between 1 May and 31 August, the air services provider handled more than 20.2 million passengers, 24.5 million bags and 45,000 flights at the two airports.

dnata handles all flights and baggage at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), including all passengers transiting though DWC and those accessing Terminals 1 and 2 at DXB. The integrated air services company helps passengers from more than 125 airlines, arriving from around the world, to reach their destination.

“With the runway upgrades at Dubai International and the addition of passenger traffic at Dubai World Central, we expected this summer to be a challenge for our Dubai operations,” said Jon Conway, Divisional Senior Vice President, dnata’s UAE Airport Operations. “Our team, however, came together to ensure we delivered the best services to our airline customers, and their passengers.”

Using the expertise gained from its operations at Dubai International airport, dnata worked in collaboration with Dubai Airports to open Dubai World Central to passengers earlier this year. During the runway upgrades at DXB, several airlines moved their operations to DWC. This summer, more than 575,000 passengers transited through DWC and dnata handled more than 750,000 bags at the airport.

“Most travellers have no idea about the amount of technology, manpower and time it takes to ensure the aviation industry runs smoothly. From baggage handling to passenger services, our team aims to deliver a seamless experience for every flight and each traveller,” added Conway.

In addition to its ground handling services, dnata also provides meet-and-assist and lounge services for passengers at both airports. This summer, more than 90,000 people experienced Arabic hospitality with marhaba meet and greet, and 230,000 people relaxed at the marhaba lounges.

In addition to Dubai, dnata has ground handling operations in 20 other airports around the world, serving more than 250 airlines.
